Carlos Sainz is confident that he can recover from the difficulties he had at the start of the 2022 season.

The past two race weekends were challenging for Sainz. The Ferrari driver had incidents on the opening laps in Australia and Emilia Romagna and managed to complete only 1 lap across those races. It also contrasted with the performance of Charles Leclerc, who is currently leading the Drivers’ Championship.

Sainz revealed that the recent misfortunes were similar to what he had at McLaren.

“You could do a comparison. Yes. It’s similar,” he said.

“I think both years in McLaren, I had a very tough start to the season, and then I had a very good – let’s say – three quarters after that, if you want to put a fraction to it.

“I think it’s part of life, it’s part of the sport. You’re always going to be in nicer periods, and you’re always going to be in periods where things don’t go your way.”

At the same time, the Spaniard had no doubts that he would bounce back.

“I’m confident that it can turn around very quickly.

“These last two weekends, in Australia and in Imola, the speed has been there and I’ve been feeling fairly confident, or a step more confident in the car and quicker.

“I think as soon as the string of bad luck finishes, the bad run, whatever, the good moments are about to come.

“History has proven to me many times now that this is the case in this sport. I just need to stay patient, stay calm in my head and it will come.”
