Volkswagen Group CEO Herbert Diess has confirmed on Monday that Porsche and Audi will enter Formula 1.
The Volkswagen Group’s possible F1 entry with the Porsche and Audi brands has been discussed for months. In April, they confirmed their intention to join the championship in 2026, though they were still in the “final evaluation phase.” The decision has probably been made as of now.
Diess stated that both brands would be in F1. Furthermore, he added that Porsche had more concrete plans.
It was also reported earlier that Audi and Porsche would try to cooperate with McLaren and Red Bull Racing respectively.
“The board and the supervisory board have unanimously expressed their positive opinion about F1. Audi has yet to decide in which composition and with which team [to enter F1], but both brands [Audi and Porsche] have already started developing engines for Formula 1.
“Volkswagen itself will not participate in F1, I can already say that. But our premium brands have decided, with our support, to participate in Formula 1.”
