Formula 1 is planning to experiment with the qualifying format next year, according to the updated sporting regulations.

The teams approved of the reduction of available tire compounds from 13 to 11 at two Grands Prix in 2023 during the F1 Commission meeting last week. It turned out that it would not be the only change regarding tires.

During the race weekends with less compounds available the drivers will have mandatory tire choice in qualifying. They will have to use Hards in Q1, Mediums in Q2, and Softs in Q3. However, the rule will not work in case any of the sessions is held in wet conditions.

Furthermore, it has been confirmed that the drivers will have three Hard, four Medium, and four Soft sets of tires for those Grands Prix.
