Max Verstappen has won the Emilia Romagna GP, ahead of Sergio Perez and Lando Norris.

The track surface was damp ahead of the race start and all drivers were on Intermediate tires.

Charles Leclerc did not have a good getaway and was passed by both Sergio Perez and Lando Norris. Behind them, Carlos Sainz and Daniel Ricciardo collided. The Spaniard spun and beached in the gravel, which was his second consecutive retirement. Valtteri Bottas did not manage to avoid Ricciardo and hit him. Mick Schumacher was also spun by Fernando Alonso and dropped down the order The Safety Car was deployed.

Verstappen remained in front at the restart. Leclerc was putting pressure on Norris and managed to come back to the top 3 later on.

There was a severe damage to a sidepod on Alonso’s car – the Spaniard had to retire on lap 7.

George Russell capitalized on the chaos of the opening laps and moved up to P6. A bit later, he fought Kevin Magnussen. On lap 12, the Mercedes driver made a pass, but went wide that allowed Magnussen reclaim the position. Russell overtook Magnussen again at Variante Alta on the same lap. This time, he managed to stay ahead.

The track kept drying up, so the Intermediate tires started losing their effectiveness. Ricciardo was the first driver to switch to slicks – he got Medium tires. That triggered a pit stop cycle.

Verstappen stayed in P1 after pit stops. Leclerc was close to overcutting Perez, but the Mexican managed to stay ahead. However, the Monegasque was not giving up as he kept putting pressure.

Lewis Hamilton was 14th after difficulties at the pit stop. He was chasing Pierre Gasly, but unable to pass him. The race went from bad to worse for him as Verstappen lapped the Briton.

A part of Nicholas Latifi’s car fell off at the Tamburello area, but the yellow flag was not brought out.

Leclerc was far from the Red Bulls, so he pitted for Soft tires in an attempt to set the fastest lap. He was passed by Norris, but the Ferrari driver came back to P3 a lap later. Both Verstappen and Perez also got a set of Softs.

While chasing Perez, Leclerc attacked the curb too much at Variante Alta, spun, and hit a barrier. He had to go to the pits to repair damage.

Leclerc’s issues promoted Russell to P4. However, Bottas was closing the gap. In the end, the Mercedes driver managed to hold his opponent off.

Verstappen went on to win the race. Perez was second, making it a 1-2 for Red Bull. Norris crossed the finish line 3rd.
