Charles Leclerc admits that he had issues with tires in the closing stages of the Sprint race at Imola.
Leclerc took the lead of Saturday’s race at the start and had a considerable advantage over Max Verstappen for the majority of the distance. However, the Red Bull Racing driver managed to close the gap, make an overtake, and win the Sprint.
After the race, Leclerc explained what happened and reflected on his performance.
“It’s still a front row start. We struggled with the tires at the end, so we need to analyze that for tomorrow. We need to make sure that we are ready,” he said.
“But the pace was good until then. We started to have some graining on the front left [tire] and lost it towards the end. But it’s life, we’ll work and come back stronger tomorrow.”
The Monegasque was also grateful for support of the fans.
“It’s incredible. Every time we’re in Italy we have so much support and it’s amazing to see so many people in the grandstand.”
