Dave Robson has stated that “incorrect switch position” triggered a brake failure on Alexander Albon’s car during qualifying at Imola.

Albon’s qualifying ended early after a right rear brake on his car caught fire and exploded. Robson explained what caused the issue.

“Alex suffered with a brake issue due to an incorrect switch position when switching to the slick tires. The combination of mixed conditions and the Sprint format is very tricky and today we did not rise to the occasion,” the Williams head of vehicle performance said.

Albon also commented on the matter.

“Unfortunately we suffered a brake system issue which ended qualifying early for us. These things happen and we’ll go away and investigate tonight so we understand what went wrong and how we resolve it.”
