Helmut Marko states that Max Verstappen lifted the throttle under yellow flags during the Emilia Romagna GP qualifying.

Verstappen took the pole position for the Sprint race on Friday. His Q3 lap was 0.779 seconds quicker than Charles Leclerc’s, who was the runner-up. However, during that attempt the Dutchman had to pass a yellow flag zone brought out after Valtteri Bottas stopped outside the track.

Marko said that Verstappen followed the rules, because he went through the zone slowly.

“He lifted. He clearly lifted,” the Red Bull advisor told Sky Germany.

“[Verstappen’s] was only the third-fastest time of the session in the third sector, so nothing can come of that.”
