Trident’s Zane Maloney is the fastest driver of the Formula 3 qualifying session at Autodromo Enzo e Dino Ferrari.

Formula 3 race weekend at Imola continued with qualifying that determined starting grids for both Sprint and Feature races.

Though the rain stopped, the race track was still damp, so the drivers had wet tires on their cars.

As time went by, the track surface was drying up and lap times were improving. Arthur Leclerc topped the timesheets after the first series of laps. Roman Stanek and Zak O’Sullivan followed him in the top 3.

Shortly after, the drivers continued fighting for pole position. Enzo Trulli made a surprising decision and went out on the track on slicks.

Oliver Bearman got to the provisional pole with just over 8 minutes before the checkered flag. It did not last long though, as several drivers beat his lap time. Stanek became the new leader.

Leclerc collided with Trulli on the final sector. The PREMA driver spun and stuck in the gravel. The session had to be red-flagged to remove the car. Furthermore, the incident would be investigated after the session.

Less than 6 minutes were left on the clock when the session was restarted. The lap times were improving dramatically and it was Zane Maloney who took the Feature Race pole position. Stanek was second, while Zak Crawford had the third quickest time.

Franco Colapinto was 12th fastest and got the pole position for Saturday’s Sprint Race.
