McLaren team principal Andreas Seidl states that he is not worried about Daniel Ricciardo’s performance.
Adapting to the new car was among the biggest challenges for Ricciardo in his first season at McLaren. It affected his results in the first half of the season. Later on, the Australian managed to deal with the issue and even won the Italian GP.
After a difficult start to the 2022 season in Bahrain, Ricciardo improved his results in the following races and finished 6th in Australia. Seidl spoke about his performance.
“From my point of view, he [Ricciardo] doesn’t need to make a step,” he said.
“He made a big step last year in the second half of the season, after the initial challenges to adapt to our car and to the team.
“It was simply important over winter to keep building on that foundation and momentum as well.
“He had a great start straightaway in this new car in Barcelona for testing. Then, obviously, [getting] the COVID infection [and] missing the test didn’t help for the Bahrain race weekend.
“But, in Jeddah, he was fully back up to pace. No worries at all.
“It’s important for me to have two strong drivers, which we have, because that’s important for the fight we’re in in the Constructors’ Championship.”
