Former F1 team owner Giancarlo Minardi has become the new FIA Single-Seater Commission president.

Minardi has been elected via voting among the World Motor Sport Council members. He will replace Robert Fernley in this position.

Minardi is currently the president of the Autodromo Enzo e Dino Ferrari and the Automobile Club d’Italia Land Speed Records Commission. He is also well-known as the owner of self-titled F1 team that participated in 340 Grands Prix over 20 years.

The FIA president Mohammed Ben Sulayem reacted to the announcement: “I warmly welcome the election of Giancarlo Minardi as FIA Single-Seater Commission president.

“He is a major figure in motorsport [and] I look forward to working with him to further develop the single-seater pyramid around the world.”
