Christian Horner has praised Sergio Perez’s performance at the start of the 2022 Formula 1 season.

Though bad luck struck Perez in Bahrain and Saudi Arabia, the Mexican finished 2nd in Australia and is currently 4th in the Drivers’ Championship with 30 points scored. Horner has evaluated Perez’s performance in the first three races of the season.

“It’s always gonna be easier for Checo [Perez] coming into his second season,” the Red Bull Racing team principal said.

“He knows the team, he knows the infrastructure. We’ve also had a reset in terms of regulations, so the car has been a complete reset.

“I think he’s driven very well so far. I think that the gap between him and Max has converged.

“He was very unlucky in Bahrain, he did a stunning job in qualifying in Jeddah and he was unlucky in the race.

“We’ve been delighted with his performance so far.”
