Xevi Pujolar has revealed that the miscommunication with the front jack operator did not let Zhou Guanyu serve a time penalty.

Zhou was given a five-second time penalty for leaving the track and gaining advantage after he had cut the track while overtaking Alexander Albon. He had to serve a penalty during his pit stop, however, the procedure was failed as the car was jacked up before it was allowed.

The Chinese driver was under the threat of disqualification, but got a drive-through penalty in the end.

Pujolar said that the double-stack pit stop during the Safety Car period led to confusion and the front jack operator was unaware that Zhou had to serve a penalty.

“The guy was not aware, the front jack was not aware that it was a five-second penalty, that’s why he touched the car,” the Alfa Romeo head of trackside engineering stated.
