Fernando Alonso is still unsure about what mechanical issues his Alpine car suffered during the Saudi Arabian Grand Prix.

The Spaniard had to retire from the race on lap 38.

“I don’t know exactly what happened,” he said. “We’re still investigating. We lost power and the car eventually stopped.

“The race was good until that point, we were fast, felt competitive. Unfortunately we lost a lot of points today.”

Alonso also commented on his battle with teammate Esteban Ocon, admitting he enjoyed it.

“It was good, very intense, my car for whatever reason today felt a bit faster than Esteban’s car, I tried to overtake Ocon and concentrate on Bottas, we lost a lot of points and we gave them to other teams but let’s see in Australia.”
