Red Bull Racing have confirmed that vacuum in the fuel system led to a double retirement at the Bahrain GP.

Both Max Verstappen and Sergio Perez were forced to retire in the closing stages of the Bahrain GP. After the race, Red Bull announced that they would investigate the incidents and suspected a fuel pump issue. Ahead of the Saudi Arabian GP, they explained what exactly had happened.

“Both cars suffered from a lack of fuel pressure last weekend. The correct amount of fuel was in both cars, but a vacuum prevented the pumps from drawing fuel and delivering it to the engine,” Red Bull’s spokesperson said.

“We’ve taken the necessary steps to correct this issue and we expect no problems this weekend.”
