Aston Martin have revealed that Sebastian Vettel still needs a negative COVID-19 test to return to the F1 paddock.

Vettel tested positive for COVID-19 ahead of Bahrain GP and was forced to miss the opening race of the season. Nico Hulkenberg replaced him. Earlier this week, the Aston Martin team principal Mike Krack confirmed that though Vettel felt better, he would have to return a negative test.

With just a day left before the start of the race weekend in Saudi Arabia, Vettel is still not cleared to race.

“Sebastian Vettel has not yet returned the required negative COVID test to fly to the Saudi Arabia GP,” Aston Martin’s statement read.

“Nico Hulkenberg will be in Jeddah to deputize for Seb if necessary.

“We will delay our final decision until Friday to provide Seb every opportunity to race.”
