Carlos Sainz has reflected on Scuderia Ferrari’s 1-2 finish at the Bahrain Grand Prix.

The 2022 Formula 1 season started in a perfect way for Ferrari – Charles Leclerc won the season opener in Bahrain, while Sainz finished right behind his teammate. The Spaniard was happy with the result, but admitted that it was not an easy race for him.

“Congrats to Charles and Ferrari. Ferrari is properly back with a 1-2 and where the team should’ve been the last two years. The work paid off,” Sainz said.

“For me it was tricky, didn’t have the pace today, but managed to hold it there and bring it home for the team. Got some homework to do.”

Sainz capitalized on Max Verstappen’s mechanical issues in the closing stages of the race. He talked about what happened at that moment.

“I had a very clean restart behind Charles and Max, he defended well to be fair, then I saw some flashing red lights on the back of his car and I went for it.

“It was unfortunate, he was driving well to get P2, but it is what it is, and it’s good for Ferrari.”
