Lewis Hamilton said he is happy with his performance at the Bahrain Grand Prix as Mercedes has been “a nightmare to drive.”

The Silver Arrows have been struggling since the start of pre-season testing, and Hamilton has qualified fifth for tomorrow’s race in Bahrain.

The British driver accepts his result as he acknowledged his team has had a bad start to the season with the introduction of the new regulations.

“I’m genuinely really happy with today,” he said.

“Given where we’ve been the last two weeks, it’s been a nightmare to drive but we’ve kept our heads down.”

Speaking about their rivals, Red Bull and Mercedes, Hamilton said they are “on another league.”

“We’re not in the fight with those. They were a second ahead in race pace, but my battle is with the guys behind.”
