Lewis Hamilton said his fine for missing the FIA prize-giving gala will go towards youth with underprivileged backgrounds who wish to follow a career in motorsports engineering.

Most of the important Mercedes figures, including Hamilton, decided to miss last year’s FIA prize-giving gala after a controversial season finish in Abu Dhabi. Because of this, the British driver was fined as stated in the regulations.

However, Hamilton agreed with the FIA that the money from the fine will go towards young people with underprivileged backgrounds who wish to get into motorsports.

“I think there will be some sort of fine around the gala,” he said. “But we’ve worked together to make sure that the money will be put together towards youth from underprivileged backgrounds getting into motorsports engineering.”
