Carlos Sainz believes that the recent modification of the Safety Car procedure is a good decision.

The FIA has amended the Safety Car procedure ahead of the 2022 F1 season as now all lapped cars have to be allowed to overtake the Safety Car before the restart. The decision was made following the controversial restart at last year’s Abu Dhabi GP.

Sainz, who was affected by the procedure in that race, shared his thoughts about the change.

“I am a strong believer that if that example helped to make the Formula 1 rules better then so be it,” he told RaceFans.

“I was affected by it. You guys know that it was a very unfortunate situation for me because I was probably fighting for my first win in that case and I had two cars in front of me that didn’t allow me to fight for that.”
