Lewis Hamilton assumes that Mercedes’ current form does not allow them to be in contention for race wins.

The Silver Arrows are approaching the start of the season in a difficult situation. They had not set competitive lap times throughout the Bahrain testing. More than that, the drivers struggled with the car. Hamilton shared his view about Mercedes’ performance.

“It’s a little bit too early to have those kind of thoughts, but, at the moment, I don’t think we’ll be competing for wins,” he said.

“But there is potential within our car to get us there. We’ve just got to learn to be able to extract it, and fix some of the problems, which is what we’re working on.

“Everyone is doing such an incredible job back at the factory and working as hard as they can.

“But we have some hurdles to overcome. Next week, we’ll get a much better showing of our pace. But I think people will be surprised, maybe. It’s a bit different this year [compared to 2021].”
