Ferrari’s Carlos Sainz has topped the timesheets in today’s pre-season testing session at the Bahrain International Circuit.

The Spanish driver set the fastest time of 1:33.532s in the C4 compound tire, completing more than 50 laps.

Sainz was followed by current world champion Max Verstappen. The Red Bull, which is yet to complete performance runs, running in the same compound tire, set its fastest time at 1:34.011s.

Lewis Hamilton, whose innovative Mercedes was the only one to run with the C5 compound tire, set its fastest time at 1:34.141s.

The session saw a few red flags throughout the day as some drivers experienced technical issues with their machines.

A final red flag as a test of FIA’s systems was shown in the closing stages or the session.
