Sebastien Ogier supports Lewis Hamilton and thinks that the Mercedes driver “was robbed” at the 2021 Abu Dhabi GP.
Hamilton was on the verge of winning the 2021 world championship at the Yas Marina Circuit. However, he was passed by Max Verstappen on the last lap of the race after a controversial restart. Obviously, that cost the Briton the title. Ogier has shared his thoughts about the incident.
“He really felt like he was robbed,” the 8-time WRC champion told RMC’s Super Moscato Show.
“He was robbed, let’s not be afraid to say that. Although I have a lot of respect for Max Verstappen, he had a great season but on the last weekend…”
“Lewis dominated the race, he was in front until the end. Unfortunately for him, a few laps from the finish, there was this famous Safety Car.
“Either one of them was a great champion but, on the face of that weekend, it was a steal. And it’s hard to swallow for Hamilton.”
At the same time, the Frenchman believes that Hamilton will not retire from the sport: “I think he will come back.”
