Kevin Benavides is no longer able to defend his Dakar title in the bikes category after the mechanical problems he had faced in stage 10.
The Red Bull KTM Factory Racing rider was 5th in the general rankings ahead of Wednesday’s stage. He started the day well as he was 3rd, 3rd, and 5th at the km 42, 85, and 128 waypoints respectively.
However, at km 133, Benavides’ bike suffered a mechanical issue. The Argentine was unable to fix it and had to end the stage prematurely. That meant that he was out of the title contention.
