Seth Quintero, Marek Goczal, and Eduard Nikolaev are victorious in stage 9 of the 2022 Dakar Rally in the respective categories

Only 10 quads stayed at Dakar at stage 9 as Aleksandr Maksimov had not arrived at the stage start and Sebastien Souday had withdrawn from the event.

Marcelo Medeiros was the leader at the first waypoint. However, Pablo Copetti took over the lead at the next checkpoint. The overall leader Alexandre Giroud was almost 2 minutes behind Copetti at km 118.

Copetti had a great pace for the whole day and went on to win the stage. Giroud finished 2nd. He lost only 6 minutes and 16 seconds to his title rival, so he stays the overall leader after Tuesday. Francisco Moreno completed the top 3.

Seth Quintero continued his quest of breaking the record for most stage wins at a single edition of the Dakar Rally. He started well as he led at the first waypoint. Then, Cristina Gutierrez Herrero, who had big mechanical issues in stage 8, got to the lead. The advantage, however, was not too big – only 7 seconds at km 118.

Quintero returned to the top of the timesheets at km 160. Gutierrez Herrero failed to catch Quintero once again and was the runner-up on Tuesday, which meant that the American won his 9th stage in the 2022 campaign. Francisco Lopez Contardo was 3rd, right ahead of Sebastian Eriksson.

Stage 9 was a real challenge for Kamaz – Master as some of the drivers faced issues throughout the day.

The stage did not start well for the overall leader Dmitry Sotnikov – he was 12th at the first waypoint, having lost nearly 2 minutes to the leader Eduard Nikolaev.

Andrey Karginov was the new leader at km 118. However, he lost more than 7 minutes at the next waypoint and was 13th, while Nikolaev took the lead back. Martin Macik used the opportunity and got to P2 in the standings.

Nikolaev won the stage and got closer to Sotnikov in the overall rankings. Sotnikov recovered from the bad start and managed to finish 2nd. Macik ended the special with the 3rd best time.
