Franz Tost believes that the budget cap will be a challenge for AlphaTauri in the 2022 F1 season.

The F1 budget cap has been reduced to $140m in 2022. The new technical regulations and the necessity to produce or buy totally new parts can cause problems for the teams.

The AlphaTauri team principal admits that they will need to be careful with the budget cap this year.

“[This] year will become for us, I think, the toughest year regarding the cost cap,” Tost said.

“[In 2021] we are far below the cost cap. That’s not a problem. But [2022] is $140 million, and buying new parts from Red Bull technology brings us as well to the limit. And therefore, we must calculate from the very beginning onwards quite well, because this situation could bring us in some difficulty.”
