Daniel Sanders is now ruled out of the 2022 Dakar Rally after a crash in the liaison section of stage 7 left him with an injured arm.

Sanders was closing rapidly on the overall lead for the Dakar Rally, which is currently held by Sam Sunderland. The Australian sat just 5 and a half minutes off the top, searching for his first Dakar victory.

Unfortunately, Sanders never showed up at the start of the special section of today’s stage 7, which he was supposed to open. Reports soon came in that he crashed during the liaison section of the stage, before reaching the special.

After already winning two stages in this year’s event, the GasGas rider is having to sit out the remainder of the event. This is due to sustaining an injured left arm in the accident.

Sanders was taken to hospital after the accident to be treated and checked for further injuries.
