Pierre Gasly admits that he is not concerned with the fact that he will stay at AlphaTauri for the third full season in a row.
Gasly made his return to AlphaTauri (then Toro Rosso) back in 2019 after he had been demoted from Red Bull Racing. At AlphaTauri, he had numerous impressive performances, including his first Grand Prix win at the 2020 Italian Grand Prix.
At the same time, AlphaTauri is not a top team and the Frenchman surely wants a more competitive ride in order to fight for race wins or even the world title. However, the clock is ticking and opportunities disappear. The Frenchman believes that he has a chance to join a top team and is not worried that he is still at AlphaTauri.
“No, because the market will change,” Gasly told Auto Motor und Sport.
“For many drivers, contracts will expire in 2023. There will be opportunities. Everything happens very quickly in Formula 1. I am not too worried. There are opportunities, I know that. We’ll see when it’s the right time.
“At the moment I am concentrating on every race weekend, on my performance. I give my best. The best I can do is repeat results like I did in Mexico – to finish fifth in qualifying, behind Mercedes and Red Bull in a midfield car.
“I would certainly do better with a faster car. That’s the only thing that matters.”
