Daniel Sanders was named as the winner of the shortened 2022 Dakar Rally stage 6 in the bikes category after a long wait.
At kilometer 101 of stage 6, poor conditions caused interruptions to both the bikes and quads special stages.
The tracks along the remainder of the route degraded after cars and trucks from yesterday’s stage had altered them. Heavy rain also played a role in this misfortune, making the tracks impossible to follow safely for the riders.
Hours went by while the times of each competitor in the bikes category were collected as of the third checkpoint. The times set by each rider by the point they reached this point determined the final results of the stage.
Daniel Sanders led the condensed stage from the first waypoint onward, leading at the critical 101km mark to give him the victory. The Australian set a time of 51 minutes and 43 seconds. Meanwhile, the current leader in the overall rankings Sam Sunderland came up short by 2 and a half minutes. Matthias Walkner finished only 10 seconds down on Sunderland.
