Nasser Al-Attiyah won stage 1B at the Dakar Rally and praised his co-driver Mathieu Baumel for doing a good job with navigation.
With a gap from Sebastien Loeb of 12m 44s, Al-Attiyah had a strong start to the 2022 Dakar Rally. In an interview after the second day of racing, the Toyota driver admitted that the stage was very tricky and the work of the co-driver had a key role.
“It was incredible because it was a tricky stage. I expected it to be more straightforward. Mathieu did an outstanding job, especially in the second part of the stage.
“I’m very happy. The Toyota works like a charm and I’m having a blast in this T1+. It feels steady. We’ll do our best, but today was a good stage for us. This is no time to race conservatively.”
Al-Attiyah has already shown great pace in the first two outings of this year’s Dakar. He has also added that the team works well and they try to analyze what is best to do day by day.
