Stephane Peterhansel has spoken about his strategy during stage 1A of the 2022 Dakar Rally.

This year’s edition of the Dakar Rally is the 33rd for Mister Dakar. However, he admits that the start of the rally is still an emotional moment for him.

“It was a very big emotion, especially at the starting line, when you see ’15, 14, 13′ and then it’s time to go. Everybody’s been waiting for that for a long time. We’ve been working on it for a lot of months and now we’re really in the action,” the reigning cars category champion said.

Peterhansel is driving the Audi RS Q e-tron this year. The Frenchman is delighted with his new vehicle.

“It was nice to see that the car was really cool to drive on the dunes. I get a lot of pleasure when driving this car.”

Peterhansel finished 14th in stage 1A with a 1m 12s gap to the winner Nasser Al-Attiyah. The Audi driver has revealed that he had a cautious strategy for the prologue.

“The strategy this morning was really to drive slow, to check if everything was okay and not to be in the top 10.”
