Masashi Yamamoto admits that Honda have never second-guessed the decision to leave Formula 1 after the 2021 season.

Despite the successful cooperation with Red Bull Racing that has resulted in Max Verstappen’s world championship victory in 2021, Honda are exiting the sport after this season.

Though the decision was questioned after Honda’s recent performance, Yamamoto confirmed that Honda was always sticking to the plan.

“Leaving F1 was a very big decision for Honda, and it was for the carbon-neutral and also for the customers all over the world,” the Honda F1 managing director said.

“Although we’re having good results this year, we never had a discussion to stay here.”
