Ralf Schumacher has heavily criticized Nikita Mazepin’s performance in his first season in Formula 1.
Mazepin’s rookie F1 season did not go well. He lacked pace at every race weekend, failed to get out of Q1 in any qualifying session, and finished 21st in the Drivers’ Championship, because Robert Kubica, who only participated in 2 races, had better results. The Haas driver got a lot of criticism from the experts and the drivers throughout the year for his controversial on-track behavior.
Schumacher shared his thoughts about Mazepin’s season as well.
“Mazepin was certainly a good driver in Formula 2. But, this year, he has developed in the wrong direction and should actually be doing something different. He doesn’t necessarily have to drive Formula 1,” he told Sky Sport Germany.
More than that, Schumacher stated that his nephew Mick should have a faster teammate to improve performance.
“[He needs someone] who can help him. Someone who can work with him to move the team forward, so that Mick is not alone in a lost cause,” he added.
