Nicholas Latifi explains what caused his crash on the final laps of the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix.
Lap 53 of the season finale in Abu Dhabi was the moment that changed everything in the race. Latifi had a big shunt that brought the Safety Car out and led to the final lap showdown between Lewis Hamilton and Max Verstappen.
The Williams driver admitted that his battle with Mick Schumacher made an impact on his tires and caused the incident.
“It was a tough race out there today and we were struggling for pace throughout. Towards the end of the Grand Prix, I was racing with Mick Schumacher and was forced slightly wide, but fairly, at turn 9,” Latifi said.
“My tires got dirty from running off track and I subsequently made a small mistake and unfortunately crashed. This obviously wasn’t how I wanted to end our season, so it’s disappointing.”
