Carlos Sainz is elated with his podium finish in the Abu Dhabi GP after a strong performance from Ferrari.

Sainz finished his 2021 season off in style, securing a podium in the final race of the season. He finished in P3 to help Ferrari solidify their P3 in the constructors’ standings. Meanwhile, Sainz gained enough points to take P5 in the drivers’ standings, beating McLaren driver Lando Norris by 4.5 points.

“[I’ll] definitely take it [the podium],” an ecstatic Carlos Sainz commented. “Especially after everything that unraveled in that race. With that late Safety Car we were at the right place at the right time, all the time with a good pace and a podium to end a magic season, the first season for me in Ferrari. P5 in the championship. I think I took it all today and definitely enjoyed it.”

“I was very strong today. From qualifying yesterday, that I did a good lap, to today, going into the race. The car felt really good. Yeah, put together a strong first stint, a strong stint on the hard [tires]. With the Safety Car right at the end, the nerves were high, but we managed to get it together and yeah, enjoyed it a lot.”

Many of the drivers approached the champion Max Verstappen after the race to congratulate him, Sainz among them.

“I think whoever came on top today was going to deserve it,” the Ferrari driver added in relation to the title fight. “I think they are two great drivers at the peak of their careers, putting together a great show. Congratulations to both, especially for Max, obviously, after that mega win and yeah, happy for him, because we shared our first year together in Toro Rosso, and now to see him be capable of winning the world championship is also a good thing for me and I look up to it.”
