Oscar Piastri triumphed ahead of Guanyu Zhou as late-pitting drivers ran out of time to challenge the dominant Australian.

Oscar Piastri led the drivers from the green flag as Guanyu Zhou and Jack Doohan squabbled for the second place. The pair fought the whole first lap, with Robert Shwartzman and Liam Lawson fighting for 4th behind.

The battle ended for Doohan and Lawson when they both lost control rejoining the track after running wide. Lawson managed to avoid contact with a barrier, but Doohan’s car was flung into the barriers and the Safety Car was called. The accident ruled a rapid Doohan out of the race and relegated Lawson to the back of the field.

The Safety Car period came to a close on lap 5. Piastri held his ground well in the lead.

Lawson and Christian Lundgaard were amongst the first to make their mandatory pit stops, changing from supersoft tires to mediums. Over the next few laps, the cars running supersoft tires would pit. Piastri and Zhou, the two race leaders, pitted on lap 10. Shwartzman, who pitted earlier than Zhou, gained a chunk of time on the Chinese driver and began pressuring him on more warmed medium tires.

Meanwhile, Theo Pourchaire had to defend his inherited lead hard against Felipe Drugovich, the drivers starting on the medium tires taking control of the race.

Juri Vips started to reel in Marcus Armstrong for P3, both of them running the medium tires without having yet pitted. However, Vips soon dropped behind and fell into the clutches of Jehan Daruvala. The Carlin driver made an effort to get past Vips, before he and Armstrong switched to supersoft tires.

On lap 28, the race leader Pourchaire made his first and only pit stop from medium tires. Meanwhile, Drugovich stayed out, with Daruvala the only other driver on old mediums at that point. These three drivers had the chance to jump the previous leaders of Piastri and Zhou by pitting later in the race for fast fresh tires. However, Pourchaire and Drugovich rejoined over 9 seconds shy of Piastri, who took back the lead.

Virtual Safety Car conditions controlled the field with just a few laps remaining after Lawson’s car expired and pulled off the circuit. However, it did not impact the race too much and the green flag returned again very soon after.

Drugovich and Pourchaire were eager to strike a slower Shwartzman in P3 and the pair took after the two leaders. Unfortunately for them, they were running out of laps to catch them despite their blistering pace.

Piastri would hold on to win his sixth race of the season ahead of Zhou, while Drugovich managed to get on the final step of the podium.
