Max Verstappen reflected on winning his first-ever Formula 1 World Championship at the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix.
Verstappen managed to overtake Lewis Hamilton on the last lap of the race after a Safety Car, due to Nicholas Latifi crashing. The Dutch driver then won the race and, therefore, the drivers’ title.
Speaking after the race, the Red Bull driver couldn’t find many words to describe his feelings, saying it was “unbelievable” that he won.
“It’s unbelievable,” he said. “I mean, through the whole race I kept fighting, and of course, that opportunity in the last lap [came].
“It’s incredible, I’m still having a cramp. It’s insane. I don’t know what to say. These guys here on my team and of course Honda as well, they deserve it. I love them so much and I really, really enjoy working with them since 2016, but this year it’s been incredible.
“I also want to say a big thank you to Checo [Perez]. I mean, he was driving hard as well today. It was great teamwork and he’s an amazing teammate.”
