Mercedes has confirmed that the team has terminated the partnership deal with an Irish building materials company Kingspan.
Mercedes was involved in a controversial story last week after it was announced that Kingspan became their latest partner. The announcement was met with criticism by the Grenfell United group, which consists of the survivors and families of victims of the Grenfell Tower fire in 2017. They claimed that Kingspan was responsible for the destruction caused by the fire.
Shortly after, the Mercedes team principal Toto Wolff apologized to Grenfell United and revealed that they had a conversation with Kingspan about it.
Earlier on Wednesday, Mercedes released a statement regarding the status of the partnership.
“The Mercedes-AMG Petronas F1 Team and Kingspan today announced that they have mutually agreed to end their partnership,” the statement reads.
“Announced last week, the new partnership included Kingspan chairing a new Sustainability Working Group for the team, and aimed to deliver carbon reductions through their leading-edge environmentally sustainable solutions for the team’s future campus.”
“However, both parties have subsequently concluded that it is not appropriate for the partnership to move forward at the current point in time, notwithstanding its intended positive impact, and we have therefore agreed that it will be discontinued with immediate effect.”
