Antonio Giovinazzi performed well in Saudi Arabia, leading him to score his second batch of points of the season.

Giovinazzi has struggled to finish in the top 10 all season. The Alfa Romeo pace was sometimes the issue, but other occasions saw bad luck ruin any chances at scoring points.

The Italian only scored one other point this year after finishing 10th at the Monaco GP. However, in Jeddah, Giovinazzi produced his best weekend of the 2021 season, just weeks after Alfa Romeo announced his departure from the team.

The Saudi Arabian GP resulted in a P9 finish for the Italian, adding an extra two points to his name this year. His qualifying performance went smoothly as well as he managed to make it to Q3, where he finished 10th.

He had been quick all weekend, outperforming teammate Kimi Raikkonen in every session of the weekend, including practice.

“Finally a little bit of luck! But since FP1 we’ve been really fast you know: P5 in FP1, then FP2, FP3 [was] a little bit worse. Then qualifying and the race again, the pace was there, and I’m really happy with this, at the start we gained positions so yes, just happy.”

“[Scoring points feels] great, because it was a long time ago in Monaco and we were so many times so close but never happening, so today [on Sunday] I was happy. Overall, it was a great weekend for myself, qualifying yesterday [on Saturday], the race, the restart was good, we gained positions, we were most of the race in front of the Ferrari but then, in the end, they were just too quick.”

“But yes, happy with P9, happy for myself too as I needed [it] and now one more to go until the end. I’m really happy for today [Sunday].”
