Max Verstappen called his qualifying crash “terrible” after almost claiming pole for the Saudi Arabian GP.

The Red Bull driver was on a flying lap, trying to reclaim the top spot that Lewis Hamilton stole from him through the session. Right at the end, Verstappen crashed his car and ended qualifying in third place.

Talking after the session, Verstappen said the incident was “terrible” as his qualifying was going on the right path.

“It’s, of course, terrible,” he said after the session. “We had a good qualifying, it was a bit hard to switch on the tires around the street circuit but I knew the pace was there and it showed in the last lap.

“I don’t really understand what happened but I locked up and of course I tried to keep the car on the track and finish the lap, but I clipped the rear and I had to stop.

“P3 is a bit disappointing today of course, knowing what lap I was on, but nevertheless it shows that the car is quick.”
