Lewis Hamilton has reflected on a dramatic qualifying session at the Jeddah Corniche Circuit.
Saturday was a day of ups and downs for one of the championship leaders – he was called to the stewards twice after FP3, but later went on to take the pole position for the Saudi Arabian GP. After the qualifying, Hamilton admitted that qualifying brought some challenges.
“We were quick through practice, but for some reason, in qualifying, we were lacking pace struggling with the tires,” Hamilton said.
The Briton was also thankful to Mercedes and his teammate Valtteri Bottas: “I am proud of Valtteri Bottas and the men and women in our team. This was the goal. We have worked so hard through simulation and set-up, the collaboration with Valtteri has been epic, the best teammate I’ve had in this sport.”
Both Max Verstappen and Sergio Perez were quick in qualifying and Hamilton believes that they will be fast in the race as well.
“My long run was good yesterday, but they’re rapid today and I anticipate it a strong battle but Valtteri and I will be on it.”
