Mercedes team principal Toto Wolff said the team wants to win F1 titles through racing and not through the stewards.

Details:

  • Lewis Hamilton had been disqualified from his qualifying result due to an infringement of the technical regulations.
  • Wolff spoke out after a great sprint race which saw Valtteri Bottas claim the victory and Hamilton finish 5th, saying they want to “win titles on the tarmac and not through the judges’ table.”

What he said:

  • “When you have it tough you have to show resilience. That’s what we did.”
  • “Valtteri and Lewis lifted my mood with a great half hour of racing. It just goes to show [that] after the greatest frustration, sometimes forces are released that lead to fantastic performances.”
  • “We want to win titles on the tarmac and not through the judges’ table,” he said regarding Red Bull’s accusations. “Besides, we didn’t want to risk losing all the points this weekend by stubbornly going for our equal.”
