Antonio Giovinazzi has shared his dissatisfaction with Alfa Romeo Racing’s strategy calls at the Mexico City Grand Prix.
Why it matters: Giovinazzi finished last Sunday’s race 11th despite running in 7th ahead of his pit stop.
- Giovinazzi is unhappy with the way Alfa Romeo planned his race strategy.
- Alfa Romeo Racing’s head of track engineering Xevi Pujolar admits that there has been a miscalculation in Giovinazzi’s strategy.
What he had to say:
- “I’m just really disappointed because today we had a chance to score points with two cars. But on my side, the strategy was completely wrong. We pitted too early, but I don’t think [that] was the issue. The issue was that when I came out, I was in traffic. The strategy didn’t work,” Giovinazzi commented.
- “The last thing we wanted was to have everyone compress behind Antonio. So we decided to box Antonio. And we knew that he will go out with them, with Bottas and Ricciardo. What we misjudged here is the pace of these two guys,” Pujolar added.
