Mercedes made car adjustments to “survive” US GP

Toto Wolff reported that the bumps at COTA caused issues for Mercedes and that they needed to modify the car to “actually finish” the race.

  • The bumps at COTA that gave rise to concern prior to this weekend impacted the whole field.
  • Constructors’ Championship leader Mercedes experienced more struggles than the rest, with their car “bottoming out” over the bumps during practice.

What he had to say:

  • “So what we did is that the car was bottoming out quite heavy, and that breaks the car. So we took some mitigating steps to not break it, or massacre it that hard, in order to survive the race.”
  • “Definitely a compromise for going faster on the track, but maybe a necessity to actually finish.”
