Daniel Ricciardo will start from the back of the grid, in exchange for running new engine elements for the Turkish Grand Prix.
Why it matters: Ricciardo already qualified in a low position on Saturday, providing McLaren with the opportunity to take the penalty while only losing a few places.
Details:
- Ricciardo will run a new Internal Combustion Engine (ICE), Turbocharger (TC), Motor Generator Unit-Heat (MGU-H) and Exhaust System (EX) for the Turkish Grand Prix.
- He will lose 4 places on the grid, starting 20th place instead of 16th.
The verdict:
- “The motor generator unit-heat used by Daniel Ricciardo is the fourth of the three new motor generator units-heat allowed for the 2021 Championship and this is not in comformity with Article 23.2a of the 2021 Formula One Sporting Regulations,” the FIA document read.
