Fernando Alonso came very close to score his first podium of the season, but unlucky circumstances did not allow it.

Why it matters: Despite missing out on the podium, Alonso admitted that the Russian GP was positive if not the best race of the season so far.

  • Alonso had a solid pace throughout the whole race, and he also managed to overtake the Red Bull of Max Verstappen on track.
  • He tried to stay on track with the slick tires when it started raining, but that decision did not pay off. That meant that Alonso only managed to finish P6, which was still a great result for the team.

What he had to say:

Luck eluded us from the podium, but performance is the best of the year for the team and me. We are going to take note of what we have done, it has been a step forward.

I am an Italian guy. I love Motorsport because of the emotions that it gives me and I grew up watching races. That's what I love!
