Valtteri Bottas led the FP2 session as he did during FP1 with Lewis Hamilton right behind him and Pierre Gasly in P3.

The FP2 session started, and the results of this session would count as qualifying should Formula 1 be unable to run the FP3 on Saturday as well as the qualifying session on Saturday afternoon or Sunday morning.

Initially, in the top-five, there were Charles Leclerc, Valtteri Bottas, Lewis Hamilton, Sergio Perez, and Max Verstappen.

Every driver had already completed at least one lap after ten minutes, except for Daniel Ricciardo, who was still in the pits since the mechanics were changing his engine.

Meanwhile, Hamilton was driving at a constant speed since the team had to check something regarding his power unit.

After 15 minutes, Fernando Alonso set the fastest lap of the session with soft tires. His teammate Esteban Ocon also went very fast and set the third fastest time. Pierre Gasly, who also fitted the soft tires, went fourth fastest.

Verstappen was out on the soft too, just like Bottas. The Finnish driver went first fastest, while the Red Bull driver remained behind him by over one second.

Lando Norris went faster than Verstappen, going second fastest. Hamilton completed a Mercedes one-two, stealing the position from Norris and moving right behind Bottas.

Carlos Sainz also fitted the soft tires, and he went fifth fastest right behind Verstappen. Ricciardo finally managed to exit the garage with 30 minutes to go.

Gasly further improved his lap, and he was third, Ocon did the same and went up to P5. Meanwhile, Antonio Giovinazzi hit the wall and broke his rear wing. Because of that, the session was red-flagged.

With 15 minutes to go, the session restarted. The drivers were more focused on the race pace simulation.

Bottas was doing a good job, while Verstappen was struggling a bit. Leclerc’s times were decent too. Meanwhile, Norris and Hamilton made a few mistakes, but nothing too serious.

Right at the end of the session, Gasly hit a curb, and lost his front wing, which remained on the track.
