Carlos Sainz and Charles Leclerc are among those who support the Sprint Qualifying weekend format.
Why it matters: Qualifying for Saturday’s Sprint takes place on Friday, significantly reducing preparation time.
- The Spaniard and the Monegasque said that Fridays become more exciting and also more intense for the drivers and teams, but at the same time admit that the format can still be improved.
- Leclerc in particular welcomes the “intensive” Friday because there is now something to lose and something to gain.
What they had to say:
- “I quite like this format for the Friday. I think for the Friday it’s definitely something positive. I am a bit bored on the normal Friday, because FP1, FP2 nothing to win, nothing to lose,” Leclerc commented.
- “For the teams with the amount of simulation tools there are nowadays it forces the teams, you know, to be modern, to be up to date, and to be on top of the simulations to try and put together a good car on Friday already,” Sainz added.
