Max Verstappen was blamed for the incident between himself and Lewis Hamilton during the Italian Grand Prix, in which both drivers retired.
Why it matters: Views about the incident were mixed, but the stewards blamed Verstappen for the incident – Something which Hamilton said sets an “important precedent” for safety in the sport.
The incident: Both title contenders were battling for the position through turns 1 and 2. Verstappen went around the outside, over the cubs, and airborne, landing on top of Hamilton’s car.
What Hamilton had to say:
- “I’m ultimately proud of the stewards. I think I need some time to really reflect on it, but I think it definitely sets a precedent.”
- “I think it’s an important precedent moving forward for the safety of the drivers that there are strict rules set in place.”
