Red Bull is now more optimistic than ever after the Sprint Qualifying, where they saw Mercedes struggle on the straights.

Why it matters: Red Bull can finish the Italian GP with a win on Sunday after Lewis Hamilton struggled to pass the McLarens on the straights, showing some straight-speed issues.

  • Mercedes will have a tough task on Sunday since Valtteri Bottas will start last on the grid, and Lewis Hamilton seemed to struggle to find the pace to overtake.
  • Horner explained what the issue was for the Silver Arrows, adding that it might help Red Bull on Sunday: “You could see Lewis getting within half a second, which is usually an overtake but just running out of momentum at the end of the straight. That’s good news if we can stay ahead tomorrow because it means they won’t be able to attack too hard at the end of the straights because they’ve got this harvesting going on.”

  • Horner also spoke about the Sprint Qualifying, saying that almost everything was decided at the start.

It was all dictated at the start. A great start for Max and a poor one from Lewis, so we were able to capitalize on that. The fast-starting McLarens on the Soft tires meant we were vulnerable to that at the start, but we were able to cover that off. We had a good pace in the race and were able to go with Valtteri.
