Oscar Piastri extends his lead in the championship after setting the quickest lap in the qualifying in Italy.

First qualifying session of the day at Monza was in Formula 2, and it brought some excitement.

Slipstream and track position are key at the Temple of Speed, so the drivers were looking for that spot on the out lap. Juri Vips went to the pit lane to go to the back of the pack in the search of tow.

Theo Pourchaire was the first driver to set a representative lap time, however, it was Ralph Boschung, who came out of nowhere and set the fastest lap early on. The drivers stayed at the race track, and the championship leader Oscar Piastri got to provisional pole, followed by Boschung and Ticktum.

After a break, the drivers left the pits once again for the final shootout. Everyone kept looking for tow, which led to some controversial moments and tricks. Boschung kept his good form as he improved his lap time and defended second place. Piastri’s result was still untouchable.

After a cooldown lap, everyone pushed again. Lap times were improving dramatically. Liam Lawson, Guanyu Zhou, and Jehan Daruvala have all been on provisional pole, but Piastri went even quicker, which secured him pole position for Sunday’s Feature Race. David Beckmann qualified 10th and would start Sprint Race 1 from the reverse pole.
